Edgar Jahir

Edgar Jahir, Oaxacan artist, was born in the Isthmus region in 1987. At an early age his concern for drawing lurks, which he begins to expand until it evolves in skill. As a result of his foray into art, he has maintained a constant production and career, standing out for working exclusively with pigments obtained from nature. The strength of his work is subtracted from the cultural and natural architecture that surrounds him, nuanced with his characteristic liquid fabric, the grana cochineal, a part of his artisanal personality.

The young artist has worked hard on his training for 15 years, has participated in different state, national and international exhibitions, highlighting "Art Basel" in Miami, "Latino Arts" in Wisconsin, "Cactus & Creatures" in London, "Luz and color of Oaxaca” at the “Riihimaki” Art Museum in Finland, among others.

In January 2018, he was presented at the Museo de Bellas Artes in Mexico City on the occasion of the exhibition "Mexican Red", which showed the influence of the cochineal in the painting of master artists for three centuries. In 2016, he was invited by the British production house Greystone TV, to participate in the documentary "The Art Show", the production of this series focuses on learning about the creative processes of contemporary artists who are standing out in different countries.

Edgar Jahir also makes artistic pieces on paper made with natural fibers, which allows showing the connection between natural essences through art; For him, the grana cochineal is more than a tool, he considers it to be his subconscious.
